After the Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United decision many predicted that "super PACs" were going to destroy American elections. There has already been a lot of super PAC money in this presidential election and a lot of speculation on its impact in the Republican primary race.

Research the role of "super PACs" in this presidential election. If you need a place to start go to opensecrets' list of super PACs. You can use the names of the super PACs to help guide your search. Then answer the following questions in your post:

What are the positives and negatives of super PACs in the presidential race? Do you think they play an overall positive or negative role in helping the voters make an educated decision on who they should vote for?

I look forward to reading your posts. Please post ON TIME. Thank you.

Response to post #2

Due Friday, 1/20

Please respond to someone's post that commented on a prompt that you didn't comment on for post 2. If you didn't post on post 2 (hint, hint get it together) then you have lots of options. In your response post you should check out their sources as well as use some of your own research. Many of you had brief responses to post #1 and struggled with knowing what to say. My hope is that since you'll be responding to a post on a topic you haven't written on you'll have more to say.

I look forward to reading your posts.

Remember these posts go into a category that is 10% of your grade. Some of you are really shooting yourself in the foot by pretending that theses assignments don't exist when in fact they do.

I would like to thank Arthur for these prompt suggestions. We were going to do a foreign policy post this tri any way so I decided to take up Arthur's suggestions. Other students can also give me prompt ideas. :)

Pick ONE of the following prompts to respond to:

*What do you think the next administration (Obama or GOP candidate) should prioritize when it comes to foreign policy?

*What should the Obama administration do in response to the death of Kim Jong Il? Does the new North Korean leadership pose a risk or a new opportunity for US foreign policy initiatives?

*To what extent should the US go to war to protect its foreign and domestic interests? Do you believe that America should use its military power to get what it wants?

Your response is due by class time on Friday, January 13th.

Response to Post #1

In an alternative universe I already did this so it didn't occur to me to do this until Abby T emailed me. My bad.

If you already posted your response post on the other thread that's fine. If not post it here. You can have an extension on your response post. Please do it by Saturday at 8pm. Thanks.

Please be clear as to WHO you are responding to and try to connect with their prediction in some capacity.
