Respond to post 2

So this week rather than responding to a post from last week you need to read and cite at least one article and respond to this prompt:

What will be the impact of the confirmation of Justice Kavanaugh?

Your response can address how it will affect the midterm elections, how it will affect turn out, how it will affect the political parties, how it'll affect the Supreme Court's legitimacy, etc.

You have a lot of directions you can take your response.

Due on Monday, October 22 please.

I believe the Kavanaugh decision to advance him as a Supreme Court Judge will energize both political parties to vote at the midterm elections. On one hand, Republicans saw the sexual allegations as a smear campaign on Kavanaugh, their assumed good man, thus voter turnout for Republicans will likely increase as a result. On the other hand, Democrat voters are enraged that the assumed sexual predator became a Supreme Court judge so they are going to attempt to win Congress as a way of bouncing back against the unfair decision (1). I believe that ultimately swing voters will decide which party will have the power in the houses of Congress.

I think that with the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh there will be more voter turn out and more votes given to the Democratic party during the midterm elections. Many liberals are very angry about his confirmation due to his alleged sexual assault. It makes people even angrier that there is a consistent pattern in this country of people not believing those who come forward about sexual assault, and that it was completely ignored. This confirmation shows to be how much the republican and democratic party are dividing and in the long term could harm our country more than help it (1). I think this was a key turning point from the midterms could go either way, to the democratic party has almost a guarantee to take back the house. However, this is only possible if people show that same passion for voting as they did protesting.

I believe that the confirmation of judge Kavanaugh will increase voter turn out and help the Democratic party in the 2018 midterm elections. The Democratic party is not happy about the confirmation of Kavanaugh; they are especially not happy about the president mocking Dr. Ford. (1) For this reason they are planning on having more votes towards the Democratic party and winning more seats in both the House of Representative and the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections. This could potentially effect congress and the rest of the country for years to come; especially since the Democratic party has vowed to impeach Trump once they win control of Congress. This will only happen if people follow through with what they are saying. Which in this country has a history of not happening.

I believe that Judge Kavanaugh being confirmed will help increase the number of people voting in the 2018 midterms, but while both parties will get an increased number of votes, I see the Democrats using this as a way to rile up angry Americans to slow down Republican control in the U.S government. According to Julia Manchester from The Hill (1), reporter Joanna Piacenza states how after Brett Kavanaugh's appointment, there has been an 11 point drop estimation for Republicans. To add on, this can be inferred to the fact that most Americans are not in favor of Kavanaugh being appointed, so this is seen as retaliation by the Democrats and the majority of Americans to show Trump and the republicans that they do not approve of what is happening in D.C. While it can show that Republicans can use Kavanaughs appointment as a stepping stone for success, the American peoples voices will be to loud to be ignored.

The recent confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court has triggered the United States to have a higher voter turn out in the 2018 midterm election. It seems like the Democratic Party and anyone else who opposes this confirmation will have the advantage as they are able to take the anger as momentum to limit Republican control in Congress. According to the CBS News article, following the Trump rally in Minnesota, it says, "Democrats outside the rally said they're not just angry -- they're mad as hell... The blue wave is coming, it is coming and I think they need to realize we're not going to stand by any longer." (1) This shows us that not only are the Democrats fired up and ready to vote more, but they are ready to bring change for a more equal side to the United States. They also believe Kavanaugh's presence in the US Supreme Court would not be credible. Whether or not the confirmation of Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court is the main factor, the 2018 midterms will result in complete chaos in the United States.

Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation into office will have a big impact on the midterm elections. Kavanaugh’s confirmation will increase the voter turnout in the upcoming midterm elections. Democrats are angered by Kavanaugh’s confirmation. They can turn this anger into turnout in the elections and fight for what they want. Additionally, there will be an increase in voters due to the MeToo Movement. Many women think that Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony was mocked by President Trump. College educated women who have been moved by Ford’s emotional testimony are likely to vote (1). These women may be turned off by what happened and vote in response. Overall, more Democrats are likely to vote in the midterms this year because they are angered by Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

The election of Kavanaugh will effect the midterms in the way that democrats will have an upper hand in voting. Analysts are saying he is going to help the Democrats get into office bringing in the "blue wave" that was predicted before. Also there might be more uprising and fighting between people and politicians. The republicans are growing in participation now because they realize that mow that Kavanaugh has been elected they will not have much say in the courts now. So people are calling it a "rallying cry" for republicans. Showing that the republicans future in elections and or voting in congress.

I strongly believe that the confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh will affect the midterms by increasing Democratic voting because I think the Democrat party confirmed him as a voting strategy to wild up the crowd to be angry and to vote. What especially sparks the outrage that could affect this voting is Kavanaugh's sexual accuser is basically being called a liar since he has been confirmed, and it is making protesters very angry such as WOMEN. In the TIMES article "Brett Kavanaugh Confirmed to Supreme Court After Fight That Divided America",they said "his reputation as a Justice may always be tainted, not only by lingering questions about the allegations of sexual misconduct – ...but about his judicial temperament".(1) The FBI Investigation case is still open towards Kavanaugh, the Republicans will always that the Democrats are never satisfied, the Democrats will have this chance to speak louder and "oppose" this confirmation with their followers who are women and strong Democratics who don't agree with this confirmation. The Republicans are having a tough time trying to recover from all of this, while the Democratic party can take this time to voice their opinions that affects the voting to give them an upper hand.

I honestly believe it will affect the midterms elections. Considering what has happen in recent years, #MeToo movement, Donald Trump elected as POTUS, this just adds to the pot of anger for the younger generations. I believe it will encourage the younger generations to vote in the upcoming midterm. It's also important to note that advertisements have been made to encourage everyone to vote, which is very likely also feeding the kitty. According to "The Badger Herald" (1) the polling data numbers have gone up recently, "Polling data reported by NPR showed that the number of Republican voters who said the November elections are “very important” have spiked. In July, 78 percent of Democrats and 68 percent of Republicans felt this way, but this margin has since closed to 82 percent and 80 percent, respectively."
I won't be old enough to vote in the midterms, but I honestly would vote due to our countries current circumstance.

I believe that because of how harsh his confirmation hearings were, now that Judge Kavanaugh has made it to the Supreme Court, he will become a much quieter judge. I think that he will speak less during court cases, or to the public, and just overall keep a much more mellow presence. Many people are comparing Kavanaugh's confirmation to the one of Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court in 1991, where he also faced sexual assault allegations, but was still confirmed. Now, Judge Thomas, "rarely speaks during oral arguments" and is "committed to making good on that oath...maybe in part because it cost him so much". (1) I think that Kavanaugh will take inspiration from Thomas and keep a lower profile on the court. I also hope that the anger that we saw during his confirmation hearing doesn't make it there.

I honestly believe the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh will affect the midterms elections. I say that because more democrats were against his sitting as a judge but now they are going to advocate for more votes because they believe that the Republicans have been in too much control in these past couple of months. Many people who did not agree with Judge Kavanaughs sitting as judge will most likely be more on the democrats side which possibly make the democrats more likely to win more votes. As the video I watched explained that when all parts of the government are all 1 party many believe that its going to be all perfect. Whilst when we have a mix of government we tend to think through our steps and have each other in check at times.

The decision to advance Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court Justice will lead to a greater Midterm voter turnout. Polls show Kavanaugh to be one of the least liked nominees in decades(1), and in the Me Too era his transgressions will not be easily forgiven. Not to mention the fact that Kavanaugh's advancement into the Supreme Court is in direct opposition to what the majority of citizens wanted, because of this citizens will be more enthusiastic to put a stop to all the unwanted changes occurring from within the oval office. And the only way to do that is to vote.
