Response to Post 3: Global Warming

Read through your classmates' responses on the how the US and international community should address global warming.

Respond to one person you agree with and one person you disagree with. You do not need to post twice. Include both responses in one post. Address who you are responding to clearly at the beginning of the paragraph. You do not need to write more than one paragraph to respond to each person (ie. you are required to write 2 paragraphs total). Explain why you agree or disagree with their view on global warming public policy. Please use at least 1 source per paragraph to back up your opinion and cite your sources.

Please post your response here so we can keep the original posts and the response posts separate and more manageable.

Due by January 4th (my birthday) by 8am!

Enjoy your vacation! M. Aby

Post 3: Global Warming

The international community is focused on Denmark this week as world leaders discuss and debate how to limit the impact of global warming.

What do you see as the most important barrier to significantly limiting greenhouse emissions internationally? What do you see as the most important barrier to significantly limiting greenhouse emissions domestically? What should President Obama be pushing for in Copenhagen? (Your answer can be idealistic &/or realistic in nature.) How should he address the dialectic relationship between the environment and the economy (especially within the context of this economic recession)?

Due by Tuesday, December 22 by 7pm.

Response Post: Afghanistan

Read through your classmates' responses on the president's decision to send troops to Afghanistan. Respond to the classmate you drew in class. Explain why you agree or disagree with their view on the escalation of the war and occupation in Afghanistan debate. Please use at least 3 sources to back up your opinion and cite your sources.

Please post your response here so we can keep the original posts and the response posts separate and more manageable.

Due December 12/15 by 7pm!

I look forward to reading your posts and trying this new method of getting you to respond to each other. M. Aby

My observations on your discussion on healthcare

First off, I love your sense of humor and how you can challenge each other in a fun way. :) Secondly, I love the fact that some of you responded to more than one person (Way to go Jacob!). I am glad some of you checked out the other people's sources (way to go Addison) - more of you should try to do that.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading your thoughts. Thanks for putting forward so much effort.

Post 2- Afghanistan

On 12/1 the president announced he will be sending an additional 30,000 troops to Afghanistan.

You can watch it below. It is on youtube in four parts:

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4:

Or you can look at the summary of the main arguments in the speech in the Christian Science Monitor.

And the White House has posted the text of the speech online as well.

What is your reaction to the speech? Do you agree or disagree with the president's decision to go to escalate the occupation and war in Afghanistan? Why?

I know you have a test on Tuesday and I believe that is the priority for this week. So for this post you do not have to do your own original research and can use Mr. Obama's speech as your main source.

Post is due on Wednesday, 12/9 by 7pm. I look forward to reading your responses.
