AP US Government & Politics

This blog is for students in Ms. Aby-Keirstead's AP US Government class in Bloomington, MN. It is for students to post their thoughts on current events and governmental affairs. Students should be respectful & think of this forum as an extension of their classroom. The instructor has the same expectations for classroom discussion & blog posts. These posts will be graded for both their academic merit & for their appropriateness.

I have several suggestions of posts to do. I think foreign policy posts would be nice, seeing as last tri was all domestic issues. Here are the following prompts/ issue areas that would be interesting to explore:

-What do you think the next administration (Obama or GOP candidate) should prioritize when it comes to foreign policy?

-What should the Obama administration do in response to the death of Kim Jong Il? Does the new North Korean leadership pose a risk to US foreign policy initiatives?

- American foreign policy vis-a-vis China. I don't know how to word a prompt, but something to the extent of US trade policy potentially?

-To what extent should the US go to war to protect its foreign and domestic interests? Do you believe that America has the ability to use its military power to get what it wants?

-Other foreign policy issues that are important, such as the Euro crisis and Syria could be explored.

On the domestic side of things, I think that the most interesting new developments involve the passage of the omnibus bill and the incorporation of the Keystone XL pipeline in the latest payroll tax cut bills. I don't know how relevant this will be for very long, but they pose some interesting discussions I think.
