Tri 2 - Lets shake it up & be creative! - Due 12/4

This week we’ll be using RAFT to shake up our blog!  The point of this is to help you practice thinking about your role as a writer and communicator.  By using this strategy, I’m trying to encourage you to write creatively, to consider a topic from multiple perspectives, and to gain the ability to write for different audiences.

Pick a role, audience, format and topic to build your own story for this week’s post.  Your writing should incorporate what you have learned about the candidates, issues and presidential campaign this trimester.  It can be funny but it also must be based on facts.  Please cite at the end of your creative piece what articles you used for the facts in your piece.

*The views expressed are those solely of the author and in no way represent the views of Hillary Clinton (although I argue that she would agree)*

“Hello, my name is Hillary Clinton and I am running for president. I would like to speak to you today about why you should vote for me for president. I used to only give campaign speeches to those who were Democrats, but my campaign manager recommended I come to speak to you, the Republican party, on why you should ditch your candidates in favor of me. Let’s focus on your two top candidates. As of this speech, Donald Trump is polling at 27.5 points, and Ben Carson is at 19.5 points (3). Instead of telling you why you should vote for me, I will tell you about why you shouldn’t vote for either of these two. While they both support your views on issues such as gun control and abortion (4) they are humans who have made some pretty terrible comments which I believe deems them unfit to rule this country.”

“Let’s start with Ben Carson. On September 20th, he said that he “would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation” (2). Slow down America, hold the phone, we live in a country where discrimination is not tolerated, so this is not okay for him to say. He later said that the problem with America is that “we listen to what they [candidates] say and not what they have done” (2). The thing that I find puzzling is that Carson has never held office himself, so we essentially are listening to what he is saying, and not looking at what he has done to better our country politically because he’s never been in office, a little hypocritical if you ask me.”

“Now onto Donald Trump, the other day, Trump claimed that “thousands and thousands of people were cheering” in New Jersey as the twin towers fell on September 1st, 2001 (1). This statement has been deemed untrue by fact checkers at the New York Times and other various news outlets (1). I do not believe that you should support a candidate who blatantly lies to the American people. Next, Trump has been reported saying that he would “certainly implement” policy to track all Muslims in the United States. Dear Donald Trump, you so adamantly fight for your second amendment right to carry a weapon yet you support the limiting of someone’s freedom of religion given by the first amendment? Lastly, the other day in a campaign speech, Trump mocked a New York Times reporter who has a physical disability by ridiculing his appearance through arm movements (5). Republican party, I truly believe that your top-polling candidates are not fit to lead this country, so instead, you should vote for me, Hillary Clinton.”

Bernie Sanders, speaking in a campaign speech on why he should be president of the United States.
"My American people, the time has come, we must have a revolution against the criminal lack of wealth equality in our nation! If I am elected your president, I will raise taxes on the 1%, and force them to pay their fair share (1). Within four years I will raise the minimum wage to $15, and create over thirteen million jobs by investing in our crumbling infrastructure (1). Along with that, I would invest in our youth jobs programs to create opportunities for disadvantaged Americans. But work is not everything, and I would also mandate that employers provide their employees with at least 12 weeks of paid vacation per year (1). Because at the end of the day, we are only human, and everyone deserves some break time!"

"But of course, getting a good job isn't possible without a good education, so another thing I would guarantee in my time as president is two years of free tuition in public universities and colleges across the US (2)! And for those still paying off their college debt, which many Americans deal with even decades after they graduate, I would allow them to refinance their loans at a lower rate (2). If you want your children and children across America to have a much better chance at a quality education, vote for me!"

"A final reason why I should be your president is that I would fight for the equality of our citizens. One of the most shocking facts about American inequality is that, on average, women make 78 cents for every dollar a man makes. I would eliminate this by passing the Paycheck Fairness Act, which will make it significantly difficult for employers to pay their female employees less than male employees (1). I would also support Planned Parenthood, and access to contraceptives and abortions (1). LGBT rights are another important part of my platform, and I, if elected, will pass legislation to prevent discrimination in workplaces, adoption, housing, and in banking (1). I would prevent states from passing legislation that opens the door for LGBT discrimination in public services in the name of "religious liberty" (1). Nine out of every ten LGBT teens report they have been bullied in school (3), I would invest in schools to educate their students on LGBT issues, and reduce bullying (1). In all, if you want a president who will fight for the equality of Americans, vote for me!"

-Bernie Sanders giving a speech to the Democratic Party on his views and why he believes he is the best fit for president.

“Hello everyone, I am pleased to come today and discuss with you my stances on environmental changes, income and wealth inequality and higher education. To start out with the environment, I would like to note that both Hillary Clinton and I are in support of stopping the enactment of the keystone pipeline. This pipeline would carry Keystone's tar sands oil, with its thick, dirty, corrosive properties, which would pose a great hazard to our country (1). Furthermore, in order to keep our atmosphere clean and healthy, I want to secure money in the economic stimulus package for grants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As far as fossil fuels, in comparison to some of my other fellow democratic candidates, Martin O’Malley has proposed cutting tax breaks to fossil fuel companies, while Hillary Clinton has not proposed eliminating them completely (2). “
“When considering income and wealth inequality, one thing that I find disturbing is how much of our country’s wealth is controlled by a small handful of upper class individuals. To combat wealth inequality in the United States I propose that we stop corporations from shifting their profits and jobs overseas to avoid paying U.S. income taxes. Additionally I will create a progressive estate tax on the top 0.3 percent of Americans who inherit more than $3.5 million (3). Onto higher education, I believe that I have the most comprehensive plan in dealing with the costs behind funding college for students. As president I would would prevent the federal government from profiteering on the backs of college students and use this money instead to significantly lower student loan interest rates (4). My plan would be in the best interest of students as it would require public colleges to meet all of the financial needs of the lowest-income students. Overall, I believe I am the best fit for president because I have experience as well as clear plans for how I would like to strengthen our country.”

Donald Trump speech on immigration to Republican supporters
“Oh this is great, It’s great fun to be here with you people. You can really tell that [State] is the best State in this great country. I’m here today to talk about an issue which is pushing our nation to the brink: Immigration. Every day in this country Mexicans illegally come pouring over our border and commit crimes. Today, I’ll tell you how I’d stop that. It is imperative that we build a large wall across the US-Mexico border. I mean, I say this in a non braggadocious way, but I have some experience building walls. In fact, I can build the best walls out of any other candidate. Can you believe that? And you know what? We aren’t just going to build this wall, we’re going to make the Mexican government pay for it. Before you start asking, ‘Oh Donald how would we ever convince the Mexicans to pay for a wall,’ remember, I wrote Art of the Deal. Not to be braggadocious, but I don’t have any concerns about being able to cajole the Mexican government. And in the center of the wall, right in the middle, we’ll have a big, fat, beautiful door for people to enter our country legally. I mean, right now we don’t have a border. How can we have a country if we don’t have borders? After we have this wall, we’re going to follow the example of racial policies from the 1950’s and gather up all the illegals and throw them back down to the Yucatan. Now I know that people have been calling me racist for some of the things I’ve said. Although this may sound braggadocious, I’ve made several billion dollars with the help of Mexican employees. I employ large numbers of Mexicans to build my hotels. I even have a Mexican maid. I say this not be to braggadocious, but I have done a great deal for race relations in the United States. So tune out what the lamestream liberal media is saying, because together, we can make America great again.”

Trump / American People / Ad / Why I should be President

I am Donald Trump and I am running for president. I will make America great again and make us rich. I will put Americans first and not be bought out by special interest groups and lobbyist, because I am funding my own campaign. China is stealing our jobs and our money. They are irresponsible and it has to stop now. I am the only candidate that has the experience and toughness to negotiate the greatest trade deals of all time. The economy will boom like never before. China and their communist dictatorship will fear the sight of our bolstering military, that will be stronger than all other nations combined. I will destroy ISIS quickly and brutally. I will make sure that our current veterans are given the care and respect that they deserve. I will attack our debt by growing the economy and increasing tax revenues. I will protect freedom and our second amendment rights. I will keep our country safe by building a wall on our borders, you can’t have a country without borders, and I will deport the illegal immigrants back to Mexico and make them pay for the wall. Obama and his administration has failed at each turn, I will be replacing Obamacare with something much better[3], and be a better and smarter leader.
I am Donald Trump, and I support this message

Rubio - Swing Voters - Speech - National Defense

Look, I’ve been saying it for years, this nation holds a responsibility to support Sunni fighters in Syria both by air and by land. President Obama has time and time again failed to offer adequate support and the whole world now feels the consequences of his inaction (OnTheIssues). His promises of not intervening our now being broken because he was too late to respond, too late to curb the escalation of violence and terroristic output from that region. I can also promise you that anyone running on the Democrat side would do nothing different than Obama, wait it out only to let the entire world and our allies suffer needlessly because of pure incompetence. Instead of dealing with real threats, the Democrats in Washington have only focused on creating a pathway for Iranian nuclear armaments, an inherently dangerous threat. Obama has disrespected our allies all while emboldening our adversaries (USA Today). Now, I am a family man with two sons and two daughters. I fear for a future where Democrats allow terrorists to walk and travel freely across this country. That is why I have supported the NSA, supported the PATRIOT Act, Supported larger restrictions on Syrian refugees. I want to live in a country where I know the we are not only protecting the world internationally, but also protecting our citizens domestically (Washington Examiner). I know that one day this nation can take back its place as an international leader and a world model for freedom and democracy, but in order to do so, we must come together and unite the nation against the evils of the world. We must tell Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton “Yes,” to fighting ISIS, “Yes,” to supporting our allies. “Yes,” to protecting against domestic threats, and “Yes,” to a safer and better tomorrow.

Hillary Clinton speaking to the American People, in the form of a TV interview on why she should be president.

Pan to Oprah Winfrey sitting with Hillary Clinton in two large chairs in the Oval Office.

Hillary: Wow, what a momentous occasion... The future president sitting and talking in her future office. This will be all over the news when I win the general election.
Oprah: Wow, let's not jump to conclusions now Mrs. Clinton. I take it you are feeling quite confident about your campaign so far?
Hillary: Yes, I feel very confident about my campaign. I think that the American people agree with my views and beliefs for America.
Oprah: And what are some of these shared views you talk about?
Hillary: Well, I believe that many Americans share my views about raising the minimum wage and helping out the lower and middle class Americans to be able to buy what they need to just live on a day to day basis (1). We can encourage companies to share their profits with their employees, increasing the amount of people living sustainably. This needs to be done to further the American economy and stimulate growth (1).
Oprah: So you believe that by increasing minimum wage and encouraging shared profits, America sides with you?
Hillary: Honestly, I do. I think that everyone who is in these two classes understands my economic stances, and they will probably vote for either me or Bernie Sanders, but let’s not get into that topic. However, I also believe that tax relief is the way to go, especially for the lower and middle class. The upper classes can contribute more to help out the country as a whole, as they have plenty to spare (1).

Oprah: I will now read a “live tweet” from one of our audience members (reading a tweet tweeted by @ilovecleanenergy), “Yo Hil-Hil, what will you do 2 get us ‘green’ lovers on your side?”
Hillary: Well, @ilovecleanenergy, I am doing a lot to encourage support from environmentalists and green party voters. For example I am working my hardest to provide funding to repair leaks in both oil and methane pipelines to avoid hazardous incidents (2). I just really want all Americans watching, especially those worried about the environment, to know that I truly want changes in the environment and that you should all vote for me if you agree with me (2). And, while not many other candidates agree with this, I believe that all of North America should be using clean energy, not just coal and methane (2).
Oprah: Alright then Hillary, this is not a time to advertise yourself...
Hillary: I’m terribly sorry Oprah, but it’s just so exciting to sit in the room which will be my office one year from now.

Oprah: Anyways... Your next question, Hillary, is what makes you stand out from other candidates, making you the clear candidate to vote for?
Hillary: I would have to say that I stand out for my sheer experience in Washington. I was previously Secretary of State, and often went all across the globe to complete my job of dealing with foreign policies. Also, I have been in the Federal Government for nearly a quarter of a century (3)! Maybe I shouldn’t have said that... I’m not old, I was just making a point to the public that I have the experience it takes to run the country. Unlike Ben Carson, who has no experience in government whatsoever (3), I have many years of dedicated service and I would do a great job running this country and protecting the average American.
Oprah: Thank you Hillary! That is all the time we have for today, but join us tomorrow at the same time for an inspirational story which will likely bring you to tears of happiness.

Bernie Sanders, speaking to the American people in a campaign speech as to why he should be president of the United States.

“Fellow Americans, this election is a time for change. It is time to change the inequality in this country for good. It is time to change the inequality of race, income, education, and so much more (2). The United States is a country built on the principles of being fair and just, and that is not happening in today’s society. In a country like this, people should not be struggling to have health care or to have an education. Every American, regardless of how much money they have, deserves to have a good and worthwhile education (3). I want to find the middle ground on issues like gun control, where nothing is going to be solved if two extremes are constantly fighting each other (3).
“You can trust me to be a good president and to stick to my word (1). I will be there to support my fellow Americans every step of the way. I aim to restore the democracy that this nation was built on. Too much money is in politics these days, and it is taking the voice and power away from the people (2). The government is not supposed to be run by the people with the most money, but that is what it has become in today’s society, especially due to the passage of Citizens United, and the overwhelming influence of super-PACS. People like the Koch brothers are spending more on campaigns in this election than either the Democratic or Republican parties (4). I know that if I become president, I will do everything I can to restore the United States back to the way it is supposed to be.”

Clinton to the American people on why she should be the next President (campaign speech)

“Hello all, and thank you for coming out today to listen to me speak on what I will do for you, if I become president. I want to be clear of my stance on issues, and especially be clear on the support I have for women in our society moving forward during the next years. I believe that it is time for a woman to lead our country. That a woman can be just as good of a president as any man can be. I am going to speak out on some issues I know that many other candidate are too afraid to talk about, especially Republicans. First, I believe that campus sexual assault needs to be ended (1). It is a major problem that is facing our college campuses, yet not many are willing to change it. Students are afraid of their campus environments and it is hurting their ability to learn. If, and when I am president, I will make sure colleges and universities address this problem by providing funding for programs that will help educate our society on consent and sexual assault (1). Another issue I know must be fixed is the current ignorance to climate change here in America. Many fellow candidates, Carson and Trump being only two, refuse to admit that climate change is an issue and that America must work to stop. I will make sure America is the leader of clean energy in the world (1). Solar panels will be spread across the country, renewable energy will be used in every home within the next 10 years after I take office, and I promise you that America will be active in fighting the harsh affects of carbon pollution (1). Along with these two crucial issues, I will be an active supporter of campaign finance reform, women’s rights to the health care that they need, criminal justice reform, income equality, and so much more that I know will improve our country for the future (1).”
“Now onto why I really will benefit America as a whole, as you may be wondering. I can promise to make these changes and fix these issues, but what I am willing to do is much more. I will fight for the average citizen. I will fight for women and minorities that have not had enough representation in the recent decades due to the past leadership in Washington. I know that America needs a leader willing to fix issues other candidates are too afraid to fix, while making sure our citizens of every class, race, and gender are heard. I know what citizens need. I was the first lady for 8 years. I was also in the Senate for 8 years representing the state of New York. And, I was Secretary of State under Obama’s administration (2). Other candidates do not have the experience that I have to offer the citizens of America (2). I will fight for the American dream. I will fight for prosperity and hard work. And with this, I know that we all can make America new together.”

Ben Carson talking to the American People in a TV Interview about Abortion
Interviewer: Good Evening friends, and welcome back to FAKES News. I’m your anchor, Tony, and here tonight we have a special guest coming to talk to us about some issues in his presidential run. Welcome to FAKES News, Mr. Carson.
Carson: Thanks, Tony-- Pleasure to be here.
I: So let’s begin by talking about one of your big issues: abortion.
C: Yeah, ok. To start off, I would like to let the American people know that I am opposed to slavery.
*pause*
I: That’s wonderful, Mr. Carson. I asked about abortion, however.
C: Yes, I know you did. I’m coming around to it. So you know how before the Civil War and the Fourteenth Amendment, slaveowners assumed that their slaves were their property, yeah?
I: Yes, that’s true.
C: So those slave-owners believed that they could do whatever they wanted with the slaves that they owned. What if abolitionists during that period just let that degradement happen, saying “Yeah, we don’t agree with what you’re doing, but we’ll let you get away with it since it’s your property”? Where would America be now? (1)
I: I see your argument; so, that makes those women who choose an abortion slave owners?
C: Yes, yes.
I: Interesting comparison. So if it’s so wrong for women to have abortions, what would you do to help these women? What if they can’t afford to have another child?
C: I believe these women can succeed, even with a child to take care of. I absolutely would help mothers with unplanned pregnancies without granting them an abortion. (2)
I: And you wouldn’t allow abortions for victims of rape or incest then either?
C: If you think there is any legitimate reason to kill a baby, go ahead. I’m listening. People who were raped and carried babies have gone on to lead useful lives, even with their child. (3)
I: Alright, thank you. Next, tell me more about your stance on Planned Parenthood.
C: I am firmly opposed to Planned Parenthood. I believe that it is unnecessary and wrong that they procure and use fetal tissue solely for research purposes.
I: You say you object to Planned Parenthood’s distribution of these fetuses. However, these fetuses that are used for research cannot be used without the mother’s consent and are shown to aid in pivotal research for projects such as vaccines. (5)
C: I believe that research can be done without the use of fetal tissue. There are so many other different types of tissue that can be used in the place of fetal tissue.
I: Ok, but I see that you used fetal tissue to do research in 1992. (4)
C: That does not affect my view. That work was different-- the research I did was meaningful.
I: But you just said that fetal tissue is not necessary for research, and yet the tissue you used was obviously beneficial in your research. How do you explain that contradicting view?
*pause*
I: Well, it looks like that is all the time we have. Thank you, Mr. Carson, for joining us here today.
C: Thanks again for having me.
I: Up Next, a new story about “Carnival Barker” Trump and his views on immigration, foreign policy, and dogs with his hairstyle. This is Tony, signing off for FAKES News.

Role: Sanders Audience: American people Format: tv interview Topic: “why i should be president”

tv interviewer: Hello Senator Sanders! You must be pretty busy right now. What have you been up to lately?
Sanders: Hello! Yes I’ve been busy with my presidential campaign, working hard to get my message out to the American people!
tv interviewer: So let’s jump right in, you say you want to make public colleges tuition free, but that would require a high expense. According to the Washington Post, “Sanders would spend an enormous amount of money: $3.27 trillion. At the very, very least.” (1) - from where would all that money come from?
Sanders: First of all I want to say, like I have before providing free college for the young is essential. Having a college education in our society now, has become the equivalent to what having a high school degree was 15 years ago. As far as where the money would come from, it’s quite simple. We tax Wall Street. By getting rid of the cap on taxable income, we can require the rich to pay taxes on all of their income instead of just a small percentage. I’d also like to note that numbers like those are largely exaggerated.
tv interviewer: You have self proclaimed yourself a socialist, are you not afraid that, that will scare away people?
Sanders: Democratic Socialist. I think a lot of people are afraid of the word socialist because they associate it with negativity but what i mean by it is that our government should be representing the people, the middle class. Things such as health care and education should be a guaranteed right of the American people. “We are the only major country on Earth that doesn’t guarantee health care to all people as a right." (2)
tv interviewer: You have also spoken about addressing climate change, tell us more about your plans.
Sanders: Definitely, climate change is a global issue that needs to be addressed. “The global average temperature increased by more than 1.4°F over the last century.” (3) And I believe, as one of the most powerful nations in the world, the US should be leading that change. Moving towards more efficient fuel power and reducing gas emission.
tv interviewer: Finally what is the last message you want to give out to the American people today?
Sanders: Well hopefully they’ve learned something from this interview. I want to say a big thank you to everyone who’s supported me so far, I’ve actually received “..more individual donations than any candidate in history”(4) and that’s something amazing! Hopefully those who haven't been out to see me will get a chance to before the 2016 elections!

For Scott Mitzel:
Ben Carson, Campaign Speech.
I’m Ben Carson and I should be elected President of the United States of America. To start things off I have a question for every citizen of this great nation. Do you want a President who can’t manage two emails? I know I don’t. But ineptitude aside, Hillary Clinton has accomplished very little in her career as a politician. Sure she has held numerous positions in government, but with the amount she has accomplished this means little. Ms. Clinton has enough blood on her hands already, four American’s blood actually. She has no right to be President of the United States.
I also want to comment on the Fight for Fifteen movement, their goal being a minimum wage of 15 dollars an hour. I am greatly puzzled by these people. They seem to think that bankrupting small businesses and being replaced by machines is a good thing. On the other hand I am in favor of a minimum wage that keeps small businesses going and gives businesses reason to still keep their employees. I believe that once we do a reach a reasonable minimum wage, we should also index it with inflation so that we never have this talk again (1).

[Ben Carson gives a campaign speech directed at the American public to tell them why he should be president]

Firstly, I’ll give you this: You are absolutely right - I have no political experience (1). But that is irrelevant because the problems raging in American government and politics right now won’t be remedied by any “political experience,” “knowledge of governmental processes,” or whatever else the left-wing media wants you to believe I need. I am qualified to be the next president of the United States because I have worked my whole life to save the lives of others, in the medical field, totally unrelated to the economy, foreign affairs, the military, or any areas of responsibility of the president.

It’s not like I was even planning to be president or get into politics; know that I’m not doing this for myself at all (2). I’m a problem solver, saving lives is a second nature to me. I don’t really care for this position, but I can’t say no to the Lord after all. God has been opening up the doors for me, He is the reason I am pursuing politics. It’s not like I really want to, but who’s going to argue with Him, am I right? I believe I should be the president because I believe in the Lord- not in Darwin’s Satanic Theory of Evolution (2). You can put your faith in me as a president as so many people have put their faith in me as a neurosurgeon because I don’t buy into those nonsensical theories of the creation of Earth or evolution- in fact, I don’t believe in any science at all. I do and don’t believe in global warming, but mostly, I don’t know what it is (3).

As tensions are rising around the world, trust that you can leave me to deal with matters of foreign relations. So what if I said that China was involved militarily in Syria, I got the wrong information from an American intelligence operative in Iraq (4). All I can say is that God was definitely not opening any doors for him. In any case, I’ll have to be briefed more on any other topics of foreign relations before I feel comfortable talking about them so we can save those conversations for when I am president.

So what I’m trying to say is that being president isn’t about knowing what a debt limit is or about Cuban relations (1). It’s about not being Muslim and choosing to be straight (5). So as God’s favorite straight, Christian doctor, I should be chosen to lead this country back on the right path.

[Bernie Sanders giving a political speech about immigration]

“My fellow Americans. The time has come to acknowledge that our current policies on immigration are not in line with what is necessary and proper to what would be the most beneficial to the nation. While we should not allow a completely open borders policy, we must make it so that individuals seeking to come to this country have a expedited way to enter the country (1). To do so, our immigration system needs a massive overhaul so that our nation can continue to be true to what it is - a nation of immigrants.

My previous voting record in regards to immigration policies have been in the best interests for the labor unions of our country (2). When I cast my vote against a bill in 2007 that would have made it easier for immigrants to enter the country on work visas, I was worried that the guest workers entering the country would be harmful to union workers because major corporations would pay them less, thus causing many low-income Americans to suffer (2). While I still believe that we need to fight for income equality, we as a country need to live up to our standing as a nation built on the hopes and dreams of so many. We have and always will be a country of immigrants, and the racist and inflammatory rhetoric of many of the Republican hopefuls needs to stop (3). Racism should hold no place in politics, and it sickens me that as a nation we still have not learned the error of our ways (3).

We must not turn our backs in this time of unrest, especially to the many families seeking asylum in the United States. Under no circumstances should we be turning our backs to peaceful people who are only seeking to have a better life than they once did. I vow to end the harmful detention policies currently in place that are unjustly and unfairly being implemented (4). We must hold these institutions accountable and as president I pledge that I will rehaul the immigration system as we know it and make it so that all people can be fairly treated and welcomed into a nation that has always been there for those that needed help - including the already millions of undocumented immigrants to this country. To make America great again as so many of the Republican frontrunners are calling for, we must make immigration reform a priority and expand it so that many immigrants can become new citizens. Thank you.”

Ben Carson, giving a campaign speech to the American people about gun control.

“My fellow Americans, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Dr. Ben Carson and I an running for president as a member of the Republican Party (Carson closes eyes for so long that members of the audience believe he’s fallen asleep). Today, I would like to talk to you about an issue that is being attacked by liberal news media. That issue is gun control. I believe that responding to these mass shootings by putting restrictions on how easy it is to obtain semi-automatic weapons is ridiculous and is not the solution. I would never advocate anything to interfere with Second Amendment rights; however, we have to keep in mind that law-abiding American citizens absolutely should have gun rights (1). After all, if the Nazis hadn’t instituted gun regulations in Germany in the 1930s, I think that the Holocaust would never have happened. The people would have gone to the closet, taken their guns out, and resisted the Nazis trying to take over their country. So in essence, by trying to regulate our guns and take them away, the United States is headed down a path that will lead us to a possible Holocaust scenario (2)(3).”

“I believe that in order to stop these mass shootings from happening, we should train teachers how to properly use guns and they should be placed in classrooms in places that the children cannot access (5). This way, if a shooter comes into a classroom, the teacher is equipped to deal with the situation and protect his or her students. I believe that this will bring down the deaths caused by these mass shootings. I also believe that in the case of a mass shooting, people can more to stop a gunman from killing them (other than taking away his gun in the first place). If I had been present during the recent shooting in Oregon, I wouldn't have just sat there and let him shoot me. I would’ve said, “C’mon everybody, let’s get him! He might kill me but he can’t kill us all! (laughs and closes eyes again).” (4) I believe that people need to stop complaining about shootings do something about them. I don't think that the solution to this so called problem is to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of American citizens.

Jeb Bush, American people, campaign speech, and why I should be president.

“Before I start this speech, I want to thank all 150 of you for showing up to this rally (1). Please don’t break a hip on your way out, the nearest hospital is twenty miles away. My condolences go out to the people who have suffered and lost a loved one in the attacks in Paris. We cannot go on as a nation in light of these events without taking action. Just the other day I heard a couple talking about the attacks in Paris. The woman was saying how horrified she was at the attacks and the man (who was Arab and had a beard) shrugged and said, ‘Stuff happens.’ When people do something like this it doesn’t just ‘happen.’ No one can deny that the terrorists planned out these attacks with the intention of hurting people. This man treated the deaths of almost two hundred people like they were nothing. He is the type of person we need to defend our country from. Action must be taken against the Islamic State. President Obama should not allow Syrian refugees into this country who cannot prove they are Christians because a person’s religion says much more about their character than where they’re from (1). During this serious time, we need experienced leaders. We cannot afford to have a president who has more experience starring in a TV show than in politics. I know that many of you are worried about how well I’m doing in the race. Don’t worry, I’m still the ‘joyful tortoise’, a loud mouth hare wearing a toupe has just tripped me a few times (2). It doesn’t matter that I’m polling at 3%, the tortoise always wins (3). So please continue donating. I’ll be a repeat of McCain... except for the losing part.”

Hillary Clinton to the American people in a TV interview about abortion
http://www.lifenews.com/2015/09/01/10-times-hillary-clinton-revealed-how-extreme-she-is-on-abortion/

Interviewer: Up next-- you either love her or you love to hate her-- please welcome to the show presidential candidate Hillary Clinton!
Clinton: Thanks for having me tonight!
I: Let’s get right down to business. You’ve made some comments regarding abortion and I would like to address those with you.
C: Yes. I still firmly hold that women have control over their bodies. No one should be able to tell a woman how to handle her health.
I: Mrs. Clinton, are you aware that a variety of polls have revealed that the majority of Americans actually disagree with you? That most people believe that abortion should only even be considered in drastic circumstances? And what about the babies? Do you really think that they can’t feel the pain of it all?
C: No person’s opinion will change mine. I understand that certain situations may have more reasoning behind it than others. However, regardless of the details of conception, a woman should have the option to do what she wants with her health. As for the child, fetal pain is not backed by plentiful evidence. Before a baby is born, it cannot feel.
I: We also have noticed your enduring support for the institution Planned Parenthood. Given some of the scandals that have arisen, do you plan to continue standing by them?
C: Of course! I think it is such a shame that they have been under such persecution for all this time. The institution itself is a haven, the services they provide are beneficial to everyone. My support for them has not and will not falter.
I: Well, America, there you have it - the real opinion of Hillary Clinton on abortion directly from the woman herself. That’s all the time we have, folks! Thanks for coming, Mrs. Clinton.
C: Thank you for having me.
I: And thanks to you all for watching, goodnight.

An ad of Bernie Sanders speaking to the American people
Bernie Sanders voice over: "The United States of America was founded by people fleeing religious persecution. How, then, can we possibly turn away those who come to us for help?"
Text scrolls over images of Syrian refugees while dramatic music plays: “America has always been a haven for the oppressed. We cannot and must not shirk the historic role of the United States as a protector of vulnerable people fleeing persecution.”
Bernie Sanders continues his voice over, various images of the Middle East in peril: "As our country faces the threat of terrorism, we must not let fear rule our hearts. We cannot allow Islamic Terrorists to win their war. If the Western world turns away Syrian refugees, they may soon have nowhere to turn to but ISIS. It is then that they really will have won. We cannot allow them to take compassion out of our hearts. It is in the American Spirit- it is the American Dream- that anyone can come here to make a successful life for themselves and their children. We are a land of immigrants and refugees. That is the foundation of this country. "
Images change from modern day Syrian refugees to images of the perils of World War II, Bernie Sanders continues voice over: "My father was an immigrant whose parents were killed in the holocaust. A man named Adolf Hitler rose to power with the goal of making Germany great again, and 50 million people died. This time around, we believe we are above these same monstrosities. We believe that we have learned from the past. But now we have Trump running, claiming to make America great again, by keeping out everyone who is different.{Show image of Holocaust with Trump turned into Hitler} This must not happen. America is built on diversity. {Pictures of Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island} We must not be afraid. We must be strong in our belief that every man and woman is born equal, and has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
"Life liberty and happiness" stay on the screen on the background of the image of the flag being planted in the ground and the music fades away.

Trump responding to voter questions

Before I start taking questions, a great Vets group gave me an endorsement. The vets like me and I love the Vets. They endorsed me.

Q: How are you going to protect this country from the evils of the world?
A: Military, we are going to make it so strong, so great, so powerful. I always say, we’ll probably never have to use it. Who want’s to use it? But we gotta have it. We need that protection with what’s happening in the world. That I can tell you.
As part of that we are taking care of our vets. They love me anyways but I will help them out. That I can tell you.

Q: How are you going to protect this country from immigrants at our border?
A: We are going to build a wall at the border. That I can tell you. People are going to come into this country, but they will come in legally. It’s going to be legal. That I can tell you. You talk to Israel and see if a wall works. They will tell you it works. That I can tell you.

Q: How do you plan to pay for the Trump Wall?
A: Mexico is going to pay for it. We are losing billions of dollars to Mexico on trade. Why wouldn’t they pay for it. This wall is going to have a big beautiful open gate and when people want to come they can come legally. They can go to big Ivy League schools and be successful here. We want talented people. We want people of great talent.

Q: How will you bring back the American Dream?
A: We can bring the American Dream back. That I can tell you. And I understand what you’re saying. I get that question from so many people. Is the American Dream dead? The American Dream is in trouble. That I can tell you. But we are going to bring it back. How about the man in the hat? What’s your question?

Q: What are you going to do to help the vets of this great country?
A: You know that’s something that the debates haven’t talked about. I looked and saw that the debate wasn’t talking about our vets. That is going to change. That I can tell you. I am going to bring attention to our vets. They like me and I am going to help them.

This night has been great. We are going to make this country great. That I can tell you.
